"Men became scientific because they expected a Law in Nature, and they expected a Law in Nature because they believed in a Legislator." -Alfred North Whitehead, 'Science and the Modern World'
You can rebutt all you like, but you can't re-write history. Most of our scientific fathers were deeply religious. Not to mention, your take is meaningless... Men expected a law in nature because they assumed there was a law in nature. If thats what science is based on, then it'd seem pretty arbitrary. Though I got the quote from a Lewis book, he was quoting whitehead. I'll leave you with this; this is Lewis Quoting Haldane: “A strict materialism refutes itself for the reason given long ago by Professor Haldane: ‘If my mental processes are determined wholly by the motions of atoms in my brain, I have no reason to suppose that my beliefs are true...and hence I have no reason for supposing my brain to be composed of atoms.’ (Possible Worlds, p. 209)”
